Jana Baker
Deputy Public Defender (SPPE Licensee), she/her
Jana was born and raised in Arizona and has moved to several states but now calls Oregon home. After graduating high school in southern Oregon Jana moved to Las Vegas where she was a practice manager for a doctor’s office. She always had a love for the law and decided to move back to Oregon to pursue that dream. She graduated summa cum laude from Southern Oregon University, majoring in Criminal Justice with a minor in psychology.
During law school Jana clerked at a private criminal defense firm in southern Oregon for two years, a post-conviction relief firm in Salem, and spent a semester as an intern for the Legislative Director of the Oregon Criminal Defense Lawyers Association. During Jana’s last year of law school, she began clerking for the Public Defender of Marion County. Each of these opportunities has deepened her love for advocacy and made her a “true believer” of criminal defense. Jana graduated from Willamette University College of Law in 2024 and then began the “Supervised Practice Portfolio Examination” (SPPE) program with PDMC.
In Jana’s spare time she can be found spending time with family, traveling, and her dog, Liberty Belle, is never too far behind.
Jana is a member of the Oregon Criminal Defense Lawyers Association (OCDLA), National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL), Marion County Bar, Oregon Women Lawyers Association, and Willamette Valley Inns at Court.
Jana serves on the OCDLA DEI committee, the NACDL DEI Committee, and the NACDL Decarceration Committee.
